The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will look into the case of four cops from Fort Lauderdale, Florida who engaged in racist behavior while with the department, reported Talking Points Memo. The FBI noted that this isn’t a full probe launched by the federal government.
Three of the officers, James Wells, Jason Holding, and Chris Sousa, were all fired by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department for allegedly sending racist text messages. Alex Alvarez resigned in January while the police department conducted its investigation.
The allegations against these men include sending text messages that included the word “nigger.” According to the police department’s investigation, the men talked about “killing niggers” and used the terms “nigger lover” and “faggot.” Most disturbing was a racist video they shared among themselves that featured brutal and violent images.
The video also features the use of the word “nigger,” images of Ku Klux Klan members, and images of African Americans being held at gunpoint and attacked by dogs.
Despite their behavior being despicable and vulgar, the department declared that their actions weren’t actually criminal.
“There was no criminal behavior detected during this investigation, however, the four officers’ conduct was inexcusable and there is zero tolerance for this kind of behavior in the Fort Lauderdale Police Department,” Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Franklin Adderlay. “Its attempt was to damage the image of our agency and I just hope that the people and the public realize that we’re not going to tolerate it and anyone that’s engaged in this behavior will be addressed immediately.”
FBI officials are meeting with Fort Lauderdale Police officials this week to examine the results of the department’s investigation.
The behavior of our police is nauseating. They shoot children, senselessly beat minorities, and frequently abuse their power. Enough is enough.
