Pope Francis is expected to encourage lawmakers to take action on climate change later this year during his visit to the United States. During an interview on WPHT, Rick Santorum expressed how much he felt that someone like the Pope needed to keep his nose out of the climate change business.
“The church has gotten wrong a few times on science, and I think that we probably are better off leaving the science to the scientists,” Santorum said.
Santorum thinks that, instead of focusing on what may be the greatest impending disaster mankind has known, the Pope needs to refocus his efforts.
“I think when we get involved with controversial political and scientific theories, then I think the church is probably not as forceful and credible,” Santorum said. “And I’ve said this to the bishops many times when they get involved in agriculture policy or things like that, that are really outside of the scope of what the church’s main message is.”
