During an address in Turin, Italy last week, Pope Francis issued a harsh condemnation about the weapons industry, reported Reuters.
“If you trust only men you have lost,” said the pope. “It makes me think of . . . people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit of distrust, doesn’t it?”
Hypocrisy, he added, also runs deep among investors of the industry. “Duplicity is the currency of today . . . they say one thing and do another,” he said.
To bolster his point, Pope Francis commented on the second World War.
“The great powers had the pictures of the railway lines that brought the trains to concentration camp like Auschwitz to kill Jews, Christians, homosexuals, everybody,” he said. “Why didn’t they bomb (the railway lines)?”
