Gerrymandering has, according to President Obama, created and exaggerated the majority of political gridlock and is responsible for much of the lack of progress in Washington.
“I think political gerrymandering has resulted in a situation … with 80 percent Democratic districts 80 percent Republican districts and no competition … that leads to more and more polarization in Congress, and it gets harder and harder to get things done,” President Obama told NPR.
Beyond the issue of gerrymandering, Obama also expressed contempt for the Senate filibuster and super-PACs, which, according to him, allow “a handful or billionaires to dictate who can compete or not compete … in a Republican primary.”
