Hillary Clinton publicly voiced her disapproval of President Obama’s recent consent of Shell Oil drilling in the Alaskan Arctic. On Tuesday, Clinton sent out a personally signed tweet stating that she didn’t think drilling in the Arctic was worth it.
“The Arctic is a unique treasure,” the tweet reads. “Given what we know, it’s not worth the risk of drilling.”

Clinton is right. After seeing the destruction created by the big oil companies with the Deepwater Horizon spill, it should be self-evident that these corporations cannot be trusted with our planet’s most precious treasures.
During a press conference at Camp David in May, Obama stated that “nobody is more mindful of the risks involved and the dangers” with Arctic drilling, provided his experience with Deepwater Horizon. He is persuaded due to the fact that Shell has had to “revamp its approach” and adhere to stricter federal standards that the Obama administration has authored.
Environmentalist groups are overwhelmingly supportive of Clinton’s opposition to Arctic drilling.
“We applaud Secretary Clinton for standing up for what science, the will of the American people and common sense demand. She’s exactly right: everything we know about dangerous oil drilling in the Arctic indicates it imperils a national treasure and is guaranteed to make our climate crisis worse,” Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, said. “Allowing Shell to use unproven technology in the Arctic is a recipe for disaster and toxic to any climate action legacy.”
