Two Boston men are accused of brutally beating and urinating on a homeless man because the man was Hispanic. One attacker said he was inspired by the anti-immigration rhetoric of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, and felt the need to act upon Trump’s words, reported Talking Points Memo.
Brothers Scott and Steve Leader pleaded not guilty to several charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, indecent exposure, and making threats related to the attack. “Donald Trump was right, all these illegals need to be deported,” Scott Leader said.
The brothers were leaving a Boston Red Sox game and came upon the victim sleeping at a metro stop. They woke him by urinating on him, then punched him several times in the face, and hit the man with a metal object. The homeless man suffered a broken nose and severe bruising.
Trump was asked about the incident and said he hadn’t heard about it. He said that it “would be a shame” if people attacked others in his name. He immediately said afterward that his followers are “very passionate.”
“I will say, the people that are following me are very passionate,” said Trump. “They love this country. They want this country to be great again. But they are very passionate. I will say that.”
That’s Trump-speak for “hey, as long as they vote for me, they can beat as many Hispanics as they want.”
