We’ve spent the last few months talking about the fact that the Republican Party is falling apart. But while that particular party has been visibly heading down the path of destruction, the Democratic Party has also been destroying itself from the inside out.
Last week’s Democratic National Committee summit showed just how dysfunctional the Democrats have become.
Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the Chair of the Democratic National Committee, has apparently not decided which side of the fence she falls on with regards to the Iran nuclear agreement, but according to Alternet, the chairwoman of the Democratic Party blocked a resolution at the meeting to support the deal.
Let’s examine what that actually means: The person in charge of the organization whose sole purpose is to promote Democrats and Democratic ideals can’t even get behind the Democratic President’s plan to help disarm Iran’s nuclear weapons programs in exchange for easing economic sanctions against the country – sanctions that are hurting innocent civilians in the country of Iran. There are so many things wrong with this that I don’t even know where to begin.
I’ve criticized President Obama when he has deserved it, but this deal with Iran is one of the most impressive and important feats of foreign policy that we’ve seen in decades. And don’t forget – this is not just a deal with the United States and Iran; it also includes Russia, Germany, China, France, and the United Kingdom. These countries have all supported the deal because they understand that there is no downside here. They don’t have idiotic news media outlets like Fox News telling their citizens that this deal will give Iran nuclear capabilities. No, they actually understand that the deal will cripple Iran’s nuclear programs for the next two decades, preventing the country from being able to develop even a rudimentary nuclear device.
When the Chair of the Democratic Party holds the same position as the entire Republican field of presidential candidates, then there is clearly a problem with the Democratic Party that needs to be fixed. It is absolutely shameful and embarrassing for Wasserman-Schultz to sit on the fence publicly, but admonish the report behind closed doors with the Party’s establishment.
It’s time to get rid of the Party establishment, if you want my honest opinion. They no longer work for the people, so it’s time to go. They have become just as incompetent as the leadership of the Republican Party, and that’s about as low as you can go for a political party.
