With Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis in jail, same-sex couples in Rowan County, Kentucky can get married like the equal people they are. According to Addicting Info, Davis’ incarceration was enough to warn five of her six deputies to start issuing marriage licenses.

Friday morning after Davis’ incarceration, Jim Yates and Will Smith Jr. were able to obtain a license so they could finally get married. It was a momentous occasion, and Yates was elated to finally get married to his partner.

“This means, at least for this area, that civil rights are civil rights,” he said. “We’re very happy.”
