The United States government is still wasting money on unneeded facilities and projects in Afghanistan, reported AllGov.com. Over the last decade, the government has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on programs and construction projects in Afghanistan that never get used.

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, John Sopko, said the military ordered the construction of a special forces base headquarters. However, the project failed. What’s more, the company tasked with building the structure fell 12 months behind schedule before the project was canceled. The uncompleted building still sits unused. Nearly $2.2 million was wasted.

That’s just a small fraction of the government’s wasteful spending on Afghanistan. VICE covered the issue early this year and discovered that many more projects fail, wasting billions of American dollars.
