Mike Huckabee, who is having trouble staying in the Republican nomination race, has decided to pick a fight with the chip manufacturer Doritos. Huckabee is not pleased that the chip maker is celebrating LGBT support.
As Time magazine reported:
At 3% in national polls, Mike Huckabee faces an uphill fight against more than dozen [sic] Republican candidates for the presidential nomination. But that hasn’t stopped him from adding another opponent in recent weeks: a bag of rainbow-colored chips.
They’re not just any chips. They’re a limited edition Doritos product called “Rainbow Doritos,” presented as a partnership between Doritos’ parent company Frito-Lay and the It Gets Better project [sic]. Donate $10 or more to the It Gets Better Project, an organization dedicated to fighting anti-LGBT bullying, and you get mailed a bag of Rainbow Doritos. The campaign was so popular that Frito-Lay is already out of Rainbow Doritos.
Outraged by the company’s apparent priorities, Huckabee has called for his fellow Christians to boycott them and all of their products.
That seems like a bit of a drastic and hypocritical move for a man who once called similar actions by LGBT groups economic terrorism and said he would never promote such behavior. As Right Wing Watch noted, while pro-LGBT rights groups boycotted Chic-fil-A in 2012, Mike Huckabee said during one of his Fox News segments that he would never call for such a boycott.
