School administrators and police in Geneva, Ohio are being questioned in regard to their potential role in the suicide of a high school student who got in trouble for “smelling like” marijuana.
Hayden Long committed suicide after police and school administrators “verbally attacked” him when he and some friends arrived at a school dance smelling like marijuana. The police reportedly questioned the teens without their parents present.
Long’s friend, Hank Sigel, said administrators told Long and others that he’d “ruined his life” and that “they would fail their classes, had ruined their academic careers, and had made the biggest mistake on their life.”
Sigel wrote and posted an open letter lamenting his friend’s death online:
