A coalition of Hispanic advocacy groups has called upon NBC, which cancelled its contract with Donald Trump over the candidate’s racist remarks, to disallow Trump from hosting Saturday Night Live next month.
The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA) sent a letter to NBC Universal CEO Stephen Burke and SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels demanding that the network pull the invitation from Trump to host the show.
“We are appalled that you would enable Trump’s hateful speech for nothing (more) than a ratings ploy and ask that you rescind the SNL invitation,” the letter read.
When Trump announced his candidacy, several companies withdrew any association from the magnate because of his racist comments. One of those companies was NBC, which cancelled its contract with Trump regarding the show The Apprentice.
It appears that Trump has television networks like NBC, CNBC, and Fox News under his thumb. Trump gets ratings, and both Trump and the networks know that. As Felix Sanchez, co-founder of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, said, SNL would provide Trump “a comedy satire platform that would de facto laugh away his bigoted comments.”
