Campaign finance spending is out of control. It’s currently projected that in next year’s presidential race, an estimated $5 billion dollars will be spent on campaigns. That number doubles what was spent in 2012.

It gets worse though, nearly half of all of that spending is expected to come from about 160 families. While there are about 128 million households in America, only a small fraction of the wealthiest families in this country are expected to contribute the majority of the funds behind the election.
