Presidential candidate Donald Trump, fondly known for his racist, oversimplified opinions, has spoken out about the tragedy in Paris Friday and has reused the ever-popular response: “If they only had guns.”

Echoing the sentiment expressed by many GOP cronies including his closest competition Dr. Ben Carson, Trump said Friday at a rally that if victims had guns, the tragedy could have been avoided. Of course, Trump completely ignores the presence of explosives in the form of suicide vests and also doesn’t explain how a French citizen might casually transport an AK-47, the type of gun that the shooters used.

Rather than trying to shift the blame to the victims and politicizing a terrible tragedy, Trump would do well to return to his immigrants-are-evil shtick and leave the mourning to those who actually care (and he shortly did just that).
