In yet another insult on common sense, GOP candidate Donald Trump has declared that in a measure to protect citizens from gun violence, he wants guns in schools.
During a recent campaign rally in Vermont, Trump addressed gun-free zones on US military bases and in schools stating,
“I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools – you have to – and on military bases on my first day. You know what a gun-free zone is to a sicko? That’s bait.”
Believing that the answer to curbing violence is further arming the general public in any and all environments, Trump’s ridiculous proposition predictably ignores the real problems behind gun violence while appealing to the right wing ammosexual voters he craves.
Trump went on to discuss the recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and Paris, suggesting that having more guns in the hands of the public would have prevented the tragedies.
“They walk into a number of places in France and they say, ‘Get over.’ Boom. ‘Get over.’ Boom. ‘Get over.’ Boom. Nobody had a gun on the other side,” he said. “You’ll have bad stuff happening, but at least we’re shooting back. And we’re going down shooting.”
While it’s no shock that Trump and his army can’t spot the logical fallacy the argument is built on, his call to fight fire with fire is particularly alarming to those of us who don’t want weaponry on our back-to-school shopping list.
