During Sunday night’s Democratic Debate, Senator Bernie Sanders responded to a question about the death of 12 year old Tamir Rice by calling for an automatic federal investigation for all citizens who die while in police custody.

“Whenever anybody in this country is killed while in police custody, it should automatically trigger the U.S.Attorney General’s investigation.”

Bernie stated that though he knows most cops are “honest, hardworking people,” that those who break the law “must be held accountable.”

Senator Sanders also called for a de-militarizing of police, turning them into the community-oriented entity that they should be, as well as molding the police force so that it ethnically and socioeconomically reflects the community it serves.
