Facebook has made the official decision to ban the trade or sale of firearms conducted on its site. This comes on the heels of President Obama’s executive order requiring background checks to be conducted on gun sales at gun shows and online, complicating the process of trading guns, but also ensuring that these guns are properly registered to an owner who has passed a check.

As much as 40 percent of gun buyers do not go through a background check currently, so Facebook’s actions are just another small step toward shrinking this loophole.
