Presidential candidate Ted Cruz was responding to a question about religious liberty on Monday in a New Hampshire town hall event when a protester began shouting and accusing Cruz of harboring a “demonic soul.”
Cruz laughed the jarring shouts off, joking that the man was a part of the Bernie Sanders campaign. Ever the comedian, Cruz couldn’t stop there, taking the common heathen liberal idea to its ultimate conclusion:
“You know the very odd thing? Usually, lefties don’t believe in God.”
His comment was met with a smattering of applause. Considering that the candidate had just moments before spoke about the importance of religious liberty, he seemed to take quite lightly his accusatory and generalized statement.
And just in case you were unsure, Cruz is wrong. While a quarter of registered Democrats claim no religious affiliation, the remaining 75 percent are religious, and I am guessing they would be particularly offended by Cruz’s assertions.
But he was never trying to win their vote anyway, was he?
