Ted Cruz has come under a great deal of scrutiny during the 2016 election for playing a number of dirty tricks to smear his opponents. Donald Trump has given Cruz the label of “liar” that seems to be beginning to stick, and Cruz clearly needs to rid himself of such a toxic association.
Now, it appears that he has found himself a scapegoat in his communication director Rick Tyler who he asked to resign on Monday. The shakeup came after the director posted a falsified video which portrayed Marco Rubio saying negative things about the Bible. Once Tyler was called out for the video, he released an apology statement on his Facebook saying that he should have checked his sources before re-posting the video.
Cruz’s call for a resignation seems extreme for the sin Tyler committed, but it is likely that Cruz just needs someone to blame for the series of missteps in his campaign.
The Iowa Caucus fiasco when the Cruz camp said that Carson was dropping out? It was Tyler of course!
Cruz released a string of questionable robocalls aimed at smearing Rubio and Trump ahead of the South Carolina primary? Of course that was Tyler, too!
The questionable flyers shaming voters for not showing up for primaries and other flyers which kind of looked like bribery checks? You guessed it: Tyler!
Here is the video of Cruz playing tough guy and firing his employee in front of the media:
