Earlier this week when presidential candidate Donald Trump ominously warned that there would be riots in the streets if he were not given the Republican nomination, many condemned the candidate (once again) for inciting violence and creating a permissive language around acting out. Many officials reacted strongly to this language, calling on Trump to walk back his statement and do what he could to not appear to be endorsing violence, but of course he remained silent.
Republican party chairman Reince Priebus, who has desperately tried to appear impartial so far, was forced to make an appearance on CNN this weekend in order to set the record straight about the role of delegates. Priebus told CNN and the nation that not getting the required number of delegates meant one should not simply be handed the nomination. That process is not one that was invented to stop Trump, it’s just the way it is.
