The National Rifle Association has already cemented it’s reputation as a batsh*t organization which is much more concerned with demonizing common-sense gun regulations and scaring its members into clinging to their guns ever closer than it is with educating or advocating for responsible gun ownership.
This week, the NRA took their recommendations from crazy to downright dangerous when they dared to suggest that the best place for parents to store their firearms is in their children’s bedrooms.
Their logic (If you can call it that):
In the event of a break-in or home invasion, the first place a parent would run to is the bedroom of their child. According to the NRA, little Shelby’s pink wallpapered bedroom is the best place to set up your arsenal and take out the fictional intruder.
Of course, the guns should be in a locked case and if your kid were to gain access to the guns inside? Well, that’s an error with parenting, not guns.
Rob Pincus, owner of firearm instruction company I.C.E. Training who addressed an NRA conference said:
“Why would you consider staging a firearm inside a child’s room? It’s the first place I’m going to go! As I’ve said…many times, if your kid is going to break into the safe just because it’s in their room, you have a parenting issue, not a home defense issue.”
Considering that only 39 percent of gun-owning homes with children in them currently properly store their firearms, as well as the rising number of children’s injury and death associated with firearms, this advice is pure disaster.
The NRA is a dangerous organization which is actively working to create irresponsible access to guns and give would-be responsible gun owners license to misbehave.
