It’s college graduation time, which means that a wide variety of celebrity and has-been alike will be taking the stage this month to offer up their best advice to wide-eyed, school-indebted young adults eager for a path forward.

One such group at MIT was lucky enough to receive actor and activist Matt Damon who used his platform for a bit more than well-wishes and wise storytelling. Instead, Damon went on a rant against big banks and their role in the 2008 crash and elsewhere.

“Let me say this to the bankers — specifically the ones that brought you the biggest heist in history. It was theft, and you knew it. It was fraud, and you knew it. And you know what else? We know that you knew it.”

The students may not have expected it, but this commencement speech may have taught them a lot more than a few ineffectual phrases – and for the future bankers in the crowd, may they strive to never be the focus of Matt Damon’s anger.
