The Governor for Maine has stepped in it more than once, but it appears that he has finally been shown the door by his constituents as he has received nearly two thousand letters asking for his resignation.
Gov. Paul LePage responded to an interview this time last year which asked whether or not he was concerned about being impeached amid a not insignificant amount of scandal. LePage arrogantly replied that he wasn’t worried at all, particularly because his constituents hadn’t called for his removal outright.
“If the people of Maine want me, I’ll do the job. If they don’t want me, just ask me to leave. You don’t have to impeach me. … There’s 1.3 million people. So far, I’ve only got four people write me that wanted me to resign.”
Well the people of Maine apparently took that response as a personal challenge and in month after the interview aired, LePage’s office received over 1,800 letters asking for him to step down. There’s no telling how many letters the office has gotten since then, but rest assured it was likely more than a few.
With the slew of scandals from LePage in recent months, it’s not hard to see why Maine residents are a bit displeased with their leader.
Maybe they were inspired to write a letter to LePage after he said that black drug dealers were crossing state lines to impregnate the white women.
Or maybe they penned that note when LePage called for drug dealers to be executed via guillotine.
Or just maybe, Maine residents sent their “get out” demands when LePage called student protesters “idiots” and stormed off-stage.
The real question now is will LePage keep his promise? The people have spoken, Pauly.
