When Senator Bernie Sanders announced on Friday morning that he would be launching the Sanders Institute as the next step in the revolution he began, it was briefly mentioned that the Senator may be soon campaigning for Tim Canova for Florida’s 23rd congressional district.
Sanders told USA Today that he founded the Sanders Institute in order to seek out and support progressive candidates for public office as well as seeking to educate the public about important issues.
Sanders said that the Institute was already planning to support and endorse over 100 candidates from school boards to congress, and that includes Canova.
Canova was mentioned by name as a possible candidate Sanders might actively campaign for soon, and it’s not hard to see why.
Canova is currently running as a first-time candidate against incumbent Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who also serves as the DNC chair. Wasserman Schultz and Sanders have clashed more than once during the Democratic primary, though mostly behind the scenes.
Ask any Sanders supporter (and a great deal of Hillary fans) what they think of Wasserman Schultz and it will be made clear to you fairly quickly that she is about as corrupt as they get. Her corruption, paired with Canova’s strong progressive principals, are clear reasons why Sanders is considering supporting Canova as his first Sanders Institute venture.
Sanders approval of Canova has already helped the candidate immensely, garnering massive donations from the same deep pocketed citizens who gave generously to Sanders.
Seeing Sanders out and about campaigning for other progressive Democrats would be an incredibly inspiring image to the millions of people who believed in the candidate and gave him record-breaking campaign contributions. Sanders is committed to convincing the American people that the revolution truly will fight on, and this would be a massive step in that direction.
