Athletes – they’re just like us! They are sometimes the victim of violent crime, too.

Okay, maybe that isn’t the best angle to take with this story, but the reality of elite athletes getting robbed under the supervision of a global competition was just too uncomfortable to bear.

Over the weekend, Rio proved that all is not well as Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and three others were robbed at gunpoint while traversing around the city.

The group of men had been attending an event in the upscale part of town, but were making their way back to the so-called Olympic village when they were held up. The robbers posed as police officers and pulled over Lochte and the others, taking their cash and credit cards.

Luckily, the robbers didn’t take off with any gold medals, and left the athletes with their lives.

Watch.
