Rather than investing in the general election, the Koch Brothers have begun to invest in conservative races all over the country, and their latest efforts involve directly targeting voters in key states.
The Koch Brothers are infamous among those who care for putting millions into elections in order to skew results and push the nation toward billionaire’s best interests, but in the 2016 election, they have stayed away from the presidential election and focused on local races.
The Koch brothers have saved millions by not supporting Donald Trump, and have put those same millions into massive television ad campaigns against Democrat Senate and Congressional candidates.
But apparently to the billionaire brothers, TV ads just aren’t working well enough anymore. Starting October 5, none of the campaign ads you see on television will be funded by the Koch brothers, a significant moment for honesty in politics.
Instead, the Koch brothers intend to fund candidates’ ground game in key states, supporting senatorial and congressional campaigns of conservatives which embody the brothers’ conservative views while also supporting keeping the government far away from their piles of cash.
In particular, the campaign will focus on 5 million targeted voters in 8 key states – Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. In these states, the Kochs are adding staff and organizing mail flyer campaigns in order to target specific persuadable voters.
This will be a major first for the brothers as they have never before invested so heavily in field organization.
While we can be glad that these billionaire schemers are keeping their nose out of the presidential election, we should all be concerned about what effects the Kochs can have on lesser offices in this election and going forward.
