According to the so-called 9/11 mayor Rudy Giuliani, Monday’s debate was especially unfair to the Republican candidate, so unfair indeed that Giuliani is now urging his good buddy Trump to skip the next debate in protest.

Giuliani claimed that if he were Trump, he would be skipping the debate because he believed moderator Lester Holt wasn’t playing fair.

“If I were Donald Trump I wouldn’t participate in another debate unless I was promised that the journalist would act like a journalist and not an incorrect, ignorant fact checker.”

Oh yes. In addition to all of the ignorant idiocracy that Republicans spew, it’s now the hip thing to say that fact-checkers do anything other than check the facts. In the Repug world, all “facts” are negotiable. But that’s what you get when you nominate a serial liar to lead your party.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time that Trump has skipped a debate – he did just that during the Republican primary as a bit of a temper tantrum about being treated unfairly by the establishment. Many suggested that missing a debate in a room full of eager candidates was political suicide, but we all know how that turned out.

Now, though, the stakes are much higher. If Trump were to opt out of the debate, could they hold a debate at all? Would the network host a town hall-style event with Clinton instead, or would they open up the stage to Gary Johnson and even Jill Stein?

The news networks and debate commission are all at Trump’s mercy when it comes to this, and that’s right where he likes them.
