They may condemn him now (for the most part), but we cannot allow ourselves to forget the enabling, fan-like role that MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” played in the majority of Donald Trump’s candidacy.
Lest we do forget, another MSNBC guest appeared on the network Tuesday to remind the world about the role Joe played in Trump’s journey to the White House.
Fellow conservative Steve Deace was speaking with host Tamron Hall when they landed on the subject of the network’s leading show.
“I just kind of laughed at the mention of Joe Scarborough. He turned his show into a Trump super PAC for six months and is one of the reasons in we’re in this position.”
Long after Trump had condemned the rest of corporate media, he was still eager to appear on the conservative show, chatting with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski nearly daily.
The two received incredible scrutiny and criticism over their attention to Trump, but they maintained that they weren’t in the tank for him. In fact, Scarborough likes to believe that his show was the first to take Trump’s candidacy seriously, way back in 2015 when the rest of media (and the nation) were still laughing at the possibility.
Despite his revisionist view of his role in this election, Scarborough did do a great deal of damage by continuing to legitimize Trump’s candidacy, giving the man massive amounts of free air time and using his crowd-gathering to bring the show its highest viewership in years.
Like many others, it has become politically convenient for “Morning Joe” to turn its back on the Donald, but if we are smart, we will work hard not to forget where he was back in 2015.
Watch.
