Though schools across the nation were forcibly integrated decades ago, there has been a slow by steady re-segregation by school systems across the nation.

In fact, in recent years, the number of schools that have less than 1 percent white students has doubled, a troubling issue in a nation that is struggling more than ever with racial division.

“Last Week Tonight,” host John Oliver took a closer look at this growing problem, discussing the harm it does to children and society as a whole to not push the issue a bit more.

“I get the impulse to seize every tiny advantage for your kid — I get that — but segregated schools cause devastating harm to actual children, and not just to their education but to their very sense of self-worth.”
