As water protectors work to save their treaty lands in North Dakota from the environmentally disastrous onslaught of yet another oil pipeline, allies in Los Angeles are reaching out the media and asking, “why aren’t you covering this?”

Over the weekend, protesters assembled outside of CNN’s Los Angeles headquarters to ask where they are in the coverage of the NoDAPL protests. Speakers referred to the lack of coverage as “media malpractice,” and rallied support from passers-by using signs and chants.

The truth is that besides a few token mentions, the mainstream media has been unsurprisingly silent concerning the oppression and rights violations occurring in North Dakota almost daily.

Just days ago, protesters were set upon by police from multiple states, dressed in riot gear and spraying mace, rubber bullets, and making use of tasters and sonic sound devices.

At the time, more than 140 water protectors were arrested. Those arrested say that they were marked with numbers on their skin, strip searched, and held in what appeared to be dog kennels.
