Just as expected, the can’t-be-bought-cuz-he’s-too-rich President Elect has already begun his long trudge toward corporate supremacy by indicating that he will do whatever he can to eliminate federal regulations against corporations – even, conveniently, his own.
But when Trump steps a foot into corporate welfare, he enters Bernie country, and when you enter Bernie country, you never leave.
Publishing an Op-ed on blogging platform Medium on Monday, Sanders attacked Trump’s corporate-cozy presidential plans, calling on the PEOTUS to focus on rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure rather than giving tax breaks the folks at the top.
Sound familiar? It’s every bit in Bernie’s wheelhouse, and it’s every bit the kind of criticism we need in the reign of Trump.
Said Sanders:
“Trump would allow corporations that have stashed their profits overseas to pay just a fraction of what the companies owe in federal taxes. And then he would allow the companies to “invest” in infrastructure projects in exchange for even more tax breaks. Trump’s plan is corporate welfare coming and going.”
Basically, while Trump may have said the occasional thing that sounds good to progressives, his actions have proved that he is only interested in helping out rich thugs like himself and the corporations they use to dominate the market.
So what should we do instead? Funny you should ask, as Sanders just so happens to have his own Act, ready and willing to revitalize the nation’s infrastructure lickety-split!
“In 2015, I introduced the Rebuild America Act to invest $1 trillion over five years to modernize the physical infrastructure that our economy depends on. In January, I will reintroduce that legislation to directly invest in our roads, bridges, water systems, rail, airports, levees and dams. Importantly, at a time when we need to reverse the 40-year decline of the American middle class, this legislation would create and maintain at least 13 million good-paying jobs, while making our country more productive, efficient and safe.”
Sounds like a good plan to me, especially since Trump hasn’t offered anything even close to as substantive.
Oh Bernie, don’t ever change!
