While citizens of the United States stare at our bleak future with a mix of dread, fear, and defiance, it’s nice to look around once in a while and see that not everywhere else is as insane as we are.
While we debate about whether a white nationalist should be able to join the White House’s administration, up in Canada, the government is having a completely different debate.
A Canadian member of Parliament, Michelle Rempel, was giving an impassioned speech this week when a certain word brought her entire speech to a screeching halt.
“Why does this government treat Alberta like a fart in the room that nobody wants to talk about or acknowledge?”
Rempel was attempting to call on the House of Commons to devote more resources and attention to Alberta’s job situation when her colleague Elizabeth May interrupted to object to Rempel’s use of the word “fart.”
Rempel was understandably outraged that the only thing May found noteworthy was her usage of the word.
Of course, in Parliaments in other places in the planet, politicians often shout insults back and forth, even escalating into physical violence.
Methinks May doth protest too much, no? She should thank her lucky stars that a “fart” in Parliament is all she has to worry about. Meanwhile, we in the U.S. have to sit by silently as an actual turd takes over the White House.
