Even when he has nothing to lose and even less to gain, outgoing President Barack Obama couldn’t help but to sling a bit of mud at those who faithfully supported Bernie Sanders in the election for daring to say something negative about his healthcare plan.

Responding to the urgent plans by the GOP to quickly repeal the ACA, Obama said of course Republicans are chiefest to blame, but that Bernie-supporting progressives were also partially to blame.

Apparently progressives being critical of a highly flawed healthcare system which even Obama acknowledges needed major changes was the motivation which led to where we are now?

Said Obama:

“In the ‘dissatisfied’ column are a whole bunch of Bernie Sanders supporters who wanted a single-payer plan. The problem is not that they think Obamacare is a failure. The problem is that they don’t think it went far enough and that it left too many people still uncovered.”

Yes and…?

Has Obama forgotten that repealing Obamacare has been the number one talking-point of every Republican in the nation since day one? It doesn’t matter if not a single voice on the left had ever said an ill word about the flawed healthcare system, Republicans have been waiting to sink their teeth into the program for the last eight years – now is simply their chance.

Being critical of the ACA and other half-assed, middle-of-the-road policies is exactly why we need a progressive in office. It is not a flaw of the revolution, but rather a feature.

As Senator Sanders has noted again and again, the U.S. is lagging far behind the modern world in the terms of providing healthcare, so why is Obama acting as if his plan was somehow the cream of the crop?

It’s his legacy, and of course he wants to protect it, but acting as if healthy criticism of a flawed plan is somehow a diabolical plan to give power to Republicans? It’s preposterous, and it is just more of the same from establishment Democrats who are reluctant to see their strangle-hold on the party diminished.
