Though the Senate Confirmation hearing for Betsy DeVos was a particularly brutal one, no one cut to the heart of DeVos’ political ambitions like Senator Bernie Sanders who fearlessly asked the Department of Education hopeful about her families deep pockets.

Clearly interested in the influence of money in politics, Sanders asked DeVos outright:

“My question is, and I don’t mean to be rude, but if you — do you think that if your family had not made hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions to the Republican Party that you would be sitting here today?”

It’s rare that you hear such honest questioning in political bureaucracy, but considering how woefully under qualified DeVos has proved herself to be, it was more than a fair question.

To her credit, DeVos didn’t burst into tears or combust on the spot. Instead, she tried to push forward with her ruse and answered Sanders.

“I do think there would be that possibility. I have been working hard to be a voice for students and to empower parents to make decisions on behalf of their children, primarily low-income children.”

Really, DeVos? Because it looks like the only thing you’re a voice for is the millions in your family’s coffers.

Luckily, it appears that the avalanche of criticism being lobbed at DeVos might actually work to keep her out of this office that Trump tried to appoint her to.

While Democrats and Republicans like to squabble about anything, the one thing we an all agree on is that our children need a fair shot in school. DeVos will not be that fair shot.
