It has been nearly 24 hours since the Twitter account associated with the Fox News network issued a tweet which wrongly identified the man who killed six in a domestic terrorist attack on a Quebec mosque as a man of “Moroccan origin.”

As we know now – and even knew then – the apprehended suspect of the killing was a 27-year-old white male and lifelong citizen of Canada. Acquaintances said he was a fan of Donald Trump and Marie Le Pen and often said anti-women and anti-Muslim things online.

We know this, in part, because the man confessed to police in a 911 call shortly after the massacre. He said he felt guilty, told police where he was, and waited for them to come arrest him.

Fox News knows this too, which is why it is shameful that they continue to have this tweet blaming a Moroccan man for the crimes of a white man. They are clearly trying to push their Muslim-hating agenda, and they won’t stop at outright lying to accomplish it.

How much better for right-wing, Trump-backing optics for a brown man to be killing other brown men? And how much worse is it for a Trump-supporting white man to be the one committing yet another Charleston-like mass murder based on religion and race?

Fox News should and must deliver a correction for their misinforming, dishonest tweet. By refusing to do so, they are proving more than ever that they care not for truth, but for their own corrupt, twisted, and hateful agenda.

They want to talk about “fake news”? This is fake news.
