Now that the Supreme Court has ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that marriage equality is the law of the land, conservative arguments against the equal right of all people under the law will be of no consequence.
That doesn’t mean they won’t continue to make their pathetic arguments though, even at the Supreme Court.
The Conservative Justices that stood against today’s decision had some shocking things to say in their dissent (warning, sarcasm ahead):
Whether same-sex marriage is a good idea should be of no concern to us.
It’s just a concern for a significant number of the American citizenry that has been oppressed and marginalized throughout their lives, but by all means, continue ignoring them.
The fundamental right to marry does not include a right to make a State change its definition of marriage.
That’s the same sort of thinking that would have allowed the Court to continue viewing slaves as property because they didn’t want to “redefine” the word “people”.
“The right [the Court] announce has no basis in the Constitution or this Court’s precedent.
That’s true, if you ignore the Due Process Clause, AKA the Fourteenth Amendment.
The human race must procreate to survive. Procreation occurs through sexual relations between a man and a woman.
We didn’t know that allowing same-sex couples to marry would also stop heterosexual couples from doing the dirty. GUYS, STOP THE GAY MARRIAGE EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE.
Thank goodness that these opinions, and others like them are now relegated to the dustbin of political and legal thought. It’s been too long now that they have held power over the freedom of the people of this country.
