During the Obama administration, gun sales in America have doubled. That sharp increase is attributed to GOP fear mongering that Obama was going to take away all the guns, reported AllGov.com.
Particularly with pistols, the firearms industry has enjoyed a veritable payday as firearm manufacturing and purchases dramatically increased during Obama’s time in the White House. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms reported that in 2008, the gun industry manufactured 4.5 million guns. Five years later, that number increased to 10.8 million.
Perhaps coincidentally, the number of mass shootings that occurred during the Obama administration also increased. The country has endured the Sandy Hook, Aurora, Charleston, and Lafayette shootings. That’s not even all of them. Each mass shooting has prompted debates and legislative pushes for more sensible gun laws. However, the pro-gun lobby wins every time and no new laws ever get passed.
“The ATF report confirms what we already know, that Barack Obama deserves the ‘Gun Salesman of the Decade’ award,” said Erich Pratt, spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. “People have been rushing to buy firearms because they’re afraid that Obama will take away their Second Amendment rights.”
It boils down to pro-gun propaganda peddled by the National Rifle Association (NRA), Republican politicians, and pro-gun pundits. These groups created a false hysteria to make people think Obama was going to take everyone’s gun. Obama hasn’t taken the first firearm. The only result is increased gun ownership.
