In its coverage of the slayings in Virginia this week, CNN has been crass in its characterization of the gunman. The broadcasting group was quick to imply gay sexuality may have in some way been behind his actions.
Just yesterday, CNN filed reports that the shooter registered domain names for gay porn sites. The narrative insinuated that somehow being gay was a sign of his deviant nature and it continued throughout much of the broadcast day.
It wasn’t until Don Lemon spoke about the matter that the narrative of gay deviousness went challenged. During an interview with Wolf Blitzer, Lemon said, “I don’t really see the relevance of it.” He continued, “I don’t want to gay shame him. There’s nothing wrong with being gay.”
