The emissions scandal involving VW is getting continually worse as U.S. environmental regulators report that Volkswagen AG also installed the emission cheating software on its luxury vehicles with model years 2014 through 2016.
The emissions scandal now affects VW’s luxury brands, Porsche, and Audi. The Environmental Protection Agency said that this investigation focuses on 3.0-liter engines in the large and expensive vehicles.
“VW has once again failed its obligation to comply with the law that protects clean air for all Americans,” Giles said in a statement. “All companies should be playing by the same rules. EPA, with our state, and federal partners, will continue to investigate these serious matters, to secure the benefits of the Clean Air Act, ensure a level playing field for responsible businesses, and to ensure consumers get the environmental performance they expect.”
The Porsche Cayenne and five Audi models, including the A6 sedan and Q5 SUV, are the models included in this new investigation. The “defeat devices bypass, defeat or render inoperative elements of the vehicles’ emissions control system,” said the EPA.
VW broke the law, plain and simple. If the company gets away with this with only a slap on the wrist, there truly is no justice against large corporate entities.
