Fox News has once again been embroiled in a scandal as yet another female employee has come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against former CEO Roger Ailes and co-president Bill Shine
Julie Roginsky, a one-time host of Fox’s “The Five,” filed a complaint on Monday alleging that Ailes had made repeated sexual advances against her during his time at Fox. Roginsky said that she was denied a career advancement by Shine for her refusal to be silent on Ailes’ actions.
As many other women at the network have said, Roginsky said that her refusal to consent to Ailes’ harassment meant that she was denied opportunities for advancement at the network and was specifically targeted by Shine for her refusal.
Roginsky said that she took her concerns about Ailes to Shine after the CEO was ousted, but rather than looking into her claims, Shine urged her to remain silent and later denied her a position based on her outspoken defense of Gretchen Carlson.
Shine, who was elevated to co-president after the highly publicized Ailes ouster in late 2016, is apparently no better to women than the man he was promoted to replace. Of course, it is clear now that it is the culture at Fox News which permits this sort of misconduct and criminal activity among high-level management.
Roginsky joins a long list of other women who were coerced into performing sexual acts for a change to advance in the business, or even keep the job they have. Fortunately, Roginsky is one of a handful of women strong enough to come forward and bring the network’s corruption to light.
With the number of sexual harassment and assault allegations already having been made against Ailes and others at the network, including Bill O’Reilly, is is certain that there are many more victims not stepping forward. With Fox News, it is clear that the sexism and hatred displayed on their programming each day is multiplied tenfold when the cameras are turned off.
