On Wednesday, yet another male Fox host landed himself in hot water when he made a lewd joke about the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump, a major misstep that he appears to be suffering for today.
Jesse Watters was attempting to defend Ivanka from the boos of a Berlin crowd at a women’s entrepreneurship conference when he made an unacceptable comment about the first daughter’s handling of the microphone.
“So I don’t really get what’s going on here, but I really liked how she was speaking into that microphone.”
Watters later said that his comment was in reference to the smooth timbre of her voice, but many interpreted the comment as something far more sinister.
Now, Watters is going on an unplanned, unannounced vacation, similar to the way Bill O’Reilly handled his harassment scandal just two weeks ago. Is Watters on his way out, or is this merely just a warning for the Fox host?
Watters said that he would be taking the rest of the week off to be with his family but that he would return on Monday, “So don’t miss me too much.”
Still, his indication of a return date doesn’t tell us much about his future at Fox. After all, O’Reilly’s “vacation” came with an end date as well, though he cut the trip short when news broke that he was being fired.
This is certainly not the first time that Watters has made incredibly offensive statements – in fact, it’s a large part of why he’s employed at Fox in the first place. Still, with the extreme pro-Trump bent that Fox enjoys, his sexualization of Ivanka may have gone a shade too far.
