While reporting the shooting in Virginia is newsworthy, sharing the video of the tragedy crosses a line into despicable voyeurism. The families and loved ones of the victims have just been confronted with a tragedy that hopefully few will ever have to face. Playing, replaying, and distributing the brutality of the moment their lives were taken serves little journalistic purpose and only serves to sensationalize the tragedy.
Ring of Fire refuses to engage in this irresponsible exploitation of a tragedy. We will keep our audience up-to-date, but we will not distribute or compound the tragedy of today’s events.
